Innovation Data Hackathon

NACI successfully hosted an Innovation Data Hackathon in partnership with the Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (CeSTII) in Cape Town on the 11-13 September 2018, during the 2018 Innovation Summit.

The overall objective of the hackathon was to curate South African Business Innovation Survey data and analytical products within NACI’s National Science, Technology and Innovation Information Portal (NSTIIP), for widespread use by decision-makers in business; government and civil society to inform their thinking, conversations, actions and strategies executed by multidisciplinary teams. The event attracted approximately 91 multi-disciplinary participants such as policy analysts, designers, web developers, economists, data analysts, etc.

Hackathons are gaining momentum as a form of social innovation in which the public defines and create solutions for its benefit. NACI will consider hosting more of such events in future to enhance and develop the NSTIIP further.
